Duties & Responsibilities: An otolaryngologist, often called an ENT doctor, specializes in the treatment of the ears, mouth, throat and nose. Beyond its focus on the respiratory system, otolaryngology includes the larynx, sinuses, and the structures of the face and neck. An otolaryngologist completes a residency program that includes coursework and training in the communication sciences, including speech-language pathology and audiology, and in disorders of the upper alimentary system that is critical to digestion and nutrition. The otolaryngologist’s duties depend, in part, on the type of practice and additional specialization.

Salary: 205,000 per year

Demand need for this profession: Ear, Nose, and throat specialist must at least five years of training in a surgical residency. This comprises a one-year course in general surgery and a four-year course in otolaryngology. Most start their medical education with a bachelor of science degree , but those with a bachelor of arts degree  are also accepted into some medical school programs.

Students wishing to start their career as otolaryngologist could study advanced science and math while in high school. Not all medical institutes require a bachelor`s degree for admission. After residency, candidates can choose to purpose an advance subspecialty fellowship that lasts from one to two years.
